TV Network

The Resume

    (April 1, 1979- )
    Originally named 'Pinwheel'
Network mostly geared toward children and young teens
Contains programming for preschoolers in the morning (Nick Jr.) and reruns of classic shows for adults in the evenings (Nick at Nite)

Why Nickelodeon might be annoying:

    Three words: Kids' Choice Awards.
Oops, scratch that – make that six words: Rosie O'Donnell hosting Kids' Choice Awards!
It was referred to as the 'green vegetable network' in its early days, because it had very little kid appeal.
It stole the show 'You Can't Do That on Television' and its whole green slime idea from Canada.
It had Marc Summers host 'Double Dare,' even though that show's messiness didn't help his obsessive-compulsive disorder.
It gave the green light to 'Ren and Stimpy' and 'Rocko's Modern Life' and then complained that those shows were too risqué for children.
Like all the other Viacom-owned networks (MTV, VH-1, etc.), it reruns its original shows into the ground.
Most of the people who star in its shows have a limited fan base of tweens and teens once they graduate Nickelodeon.
Most of its kiddie shows can encourage disrespect to parents and other adults.
It produced awful movies ('Snow Day,' anyone?).
It started on April Fool's Day.

Why Nickelodeon might not be annoying:

It is the world's first channel devoted primarily to children's programming.
It is among the most watched cable networks in the United States.
Many of its shows and commercials can be described as quirky.
It brought us 'Rugrats,' 'Spongebob Squarepants' and 'Adventures of Pete and Pete.'
It features some programming that is produced by kids.
It has some educational programming that sparks children's interest in current events, the environment and politics.
It spun off the channels TV Land and Noggin.
It has a program (U-Pick) where kids can vote on what show they would want to see.
Its studios are located at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
