Politician
    (March 28, 1942- )
Born in Tredegar, Wales, United Kingdom
Member of Parliament for Bedwellty (1970-83) and Islwyn (1983-95)
Leader of the Labour Party (1983-92)
    European Commissioner for Transport (1995-99)
European Commissioner for Administrative Reform (1999-2004)
Vice President of the European Commission (1999-2004)
Made a Life Peer as Baron Kinnock (2005)
Father-in-law of Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt
Joe Biden plagiarized one of his speeches during Biden's short-lived 1988 Presidential campaign.
He resigned as Labour Party leader after a surprise loss in the 1992 general election, despite polls predicting a narrow Labour victory or at least the Conservatives losing their majority in Parliament, forcing a coalition government.
He had been a long-time critic of the House of Lords, so his acceptance of a peerage led to accusations of hypocrisy.
He had his driver's license suspended for six months after two arrests for speeding on the M4 Motorway (2006).
He and Glennys Parry have been married for over fifty years.
He initiated Labour's move to more centrist positions.
Perhaps surprisingly, he and Biden became good friends, with Biden introducing him to Senate staffers as 'my greatest ever speechwriter,' and inviting him to the Obama inauguration.
