The Resume

    Born in United States
Ancient Semitic term, means 'lord' or 'master'
Was used as a name of any one of a number of ancient gods of the Middle East or north Africa or even human rulers
Commonly used in the Old Testament to refer to the chief god of the polytheistic Philistines

Why Baal might be annoying:

When the Old Testament of the Bible refers to Baal it may be referring to a number of different deities and not just one.
Worship of Baal at different times and places included human and animal sacrifice and ritual prostitution.
Worshiping Baal kept getting the Jews in trouble with God.
Elijah really embarrassed Baal's followers once.
He is sometimes identified as Satan or as one of his lieutenants.
His followers, the Philistines, were jerks anyway.

Why Baal might not be annoying:

He is the god of fertility. Always a good thing.
Through no fault of his own, he got a lot of bad press.
He keeps archaeologists employed and entertained.
There's as much proof he's real as there is of any other god.
In fact, his worship may have been the first stirrings of monotheism in the Middle East.
