The Resume

    (October 9, 2002-February 2, 2003)
Television series that appeared on the WB (2002-2003)
Featured three female superheroes fighting crime in a Gotham City that has been abandoned by Batman
Starred; Ashley Scott as Helena Kyle/Huntress, the daughter of Batman and Catwoman
    Dina Meyer as Barbara Gordon/Oracle/Batgirl
    Rachel Skarsten as Dinah Redmon
Shemar Moore as Detective Jesse Reese and Mia Sara as Dr. Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn
    Ian Abercrombie as Alfred Pennyworth

Why Birds of Prey might be annoying:

The writing was poor, particularly the dialogue.
The soundtrack was quite intrusive and irritating.
The acting from the talented and experienced cast was surprisingly weak.
It's ratings were poor even by WB standards and it was cancelled after only eleven episodes with the final two episodes having to be hurriedly rewritten to serve as a series finale.
The show revolved around superpowerful mutant 'metahumans,' some good, some bad and the three superheros battles to protect them or defend New Gotham from them, which was a plot lame and overused even by the birth of the show.
It was not part of the DC/Dark Horse canon but was a mishmash of a couple of different stories from both that had been written decades apart.
    The romances portrayed were weak.
The cinematography made it hard to see sometimes.
The city in which it was set was not the Gotham City of DC comics but a 'New Gotham City' rebuilt from a Gotham City that had been destroyed in an earthquake years prior to the events of the series.
The guest cast, outside of one time appearances by Lori Loughlin and Mitch Pileggi was weak.
The science of the show was nonsense.
It ripped off some ideas from Smallville.

Why Birds of Prey might not be annoying:

The three superhero leads and the main villain were all women.
The production values were excellent and the show had a fantastic 'look.'
The cast was outstanding. And really hot.
Dina Meyer in a Batgirl outfit.
There were some very good moments of humor.
The all-female superhero team was very cool as was especially the presence of Dina Meyer as a (usually) wheelchair bound but attractive, intelligent, and capable brainiac.
The highly stylized, kung-fu inspired fight scenes were excellent!
It had the highest rated debut in WB history.
Despite its quickie cancellation, its final episode worked well as a series finale.
Although little watched in its own time and quickly cancelled, it has remained popular through the years in large part due to an excellent and timely released DVD version.
