Why he might be annoying:

    She and her husband had a mistrustful marriage.
    Although Regent, she entrusted the French government to Jules Mazarin, the prime minister and her supposed lover.
    Although her Regency ended with Louis XIV coming to age, she still exerted influence and power over her son. (1651)
    To secure peace between France and Spain, she made her son marry her niece, the Spanish Hapsburg princess Marie-Thérèse of Austria.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Her memoirs were published by François de la Rochefoucauld (1662).
    She retired to a convent (1661).
    She's viewed by many as brilliant and cunning (Louis XIV wouldn't survive his childhood without her).
    She is a central figure in Alexandre Dumas' novel 'The Three Musketeers.'
