Why China Beach might be annoying
Real life Vietnam War veterans complained that the series was unrealistic because it often focused on the characters' romantic lives.
This led to later seasons being more medical/combat based, with romantic entanglements relegated more to innuendo and subplots.
Some scenes involved animated cartoons to express a character's state of mind.
Despite being a favorite among critics, the show garnered low ratings throughout its entire run.
Producers ended the series prematurely because they felt that the antiwar message of the show would not sit well with Americans in light of the first Gulf War in 1991.
It could simply have been an extension of the short lived series 'AfterMASH.'
The series finale aired in the middle of June.
Why China Beach might not be annoying
The series followed characters who survived the war back to America, showing their struggles to return to 'normal' society.
Like 'M*A*S*H,' it was not afraid to display the gruesomeness and futility of war.
The series helped launch the careers of many famous faces such as Delany, Boatman, and Helgenberger.
In fact,Trekkies may recognize Picardo before he earned fame via 'Star Trek: Voyager.'
The series was critically lauded throughout its entire run.
Delany won two Emmys for her role in the series.
The theme song of the show was 'Reflections' by Diana Ross and the The Supremes.
