Why he might be annoying:

    He was born with an extra finger on each hand, which he removed himself 'with the aid of catgut and a sharp knife.'
    He was fined £10 for 'driving without due care and attention' after a car crash that killed fellow cricketer Collie Smith (1959).
    He was criticized for playing a tournament in Rhodesia during the apartheid era (1970).
    His knighthood was announced publicly before the Governor General of Barbados was informed, producing a minor diplomatic kerfuffle.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is left-handed.
    When he was five, his father was lost at sea when his ship was torpedoed by a German U-boat.
    He is widely considered the best all-around cricketer, excelling as a batsman, bowler and fielder.
    He set a record for highest individual score in an innings of Test cricket (365 not out in 1958), which would not be broken until 1994 (when Brian Lara scored 375).
    In addition to cricket, he represented Barbados internationally in soccer, table tennis and dominoes.
    He was one of ten people named a National Hero of Barbados (1998).
