The Resume

    (January 4, 1959-June 14, 1970)
Aired on CBS (1959-63) and NBC (1963-70)
Hosted by Allen Ludden (1959-62) and Robert Earle (1962-70)
Premise: Two teams of students from two different universities compete in a quiz game

Why G.E. College Bowl might be annoying:

In case it wasn't obvious enough, it was sponsored by General Electric.
It was a pretentious quiz show.
Many of its fans scoffed when Ludden left the show to host some silly word game.
You had to be an uber-nerd to be able to answer some of those questions.
A lot of the women who competed on the show looked like men.

Why G.E. College Bowl might not be annoying:

It is one of the few college-oriented shows that encouraged intellect rather than athleticism (or for that matter, partying).
It boosted the reputations of many universities.
The competitors won money for their schools rather than themselves.
TV Guide ranked it as the third greatest game show of all-time.
It inspired numerous other shows with a 'quiz bowl' format.
