    Wrote ‘Pendulum Music (1968),’ ‘Four Organs (1970),’ ‘Drumming (1971),’ ‘Music for 18 Musicians (1974),’ ‘The Cave (1993)’ and ‘Three Tales (1998)’

Why he might be annoying:

    Some find his minimalist music cold and mechanical.
    He uses weird sound effects in his works.
    He never achieved the popular success of other minimalists like Philip Glass and Michael Nyman.
    A critic said you could leave the room in the middle of one of his pieces, be gone an hour, and miss nothing.
    He wrote an opera about Dolly, the cloned sheep.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is modest and easygoing.
    His music is innovative and influential.
    The ‘Village Voice’ called him ‘America’s greatest living composer.’
    Before turning to classical music, he was a jazz drummer.
    He is influenced by African folk music.
    Sonic Youth recorded a cover of one of his pieces.
