Died of complication from diabetes, cancer and heart disease

Why she might be annoying:

She left school in the sixth grade.
Her family owned mules.
She was arrested during a protest (June 1963).
While representing the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, she successfully caught the attention of the Democratic Party. When the Democratic Party offered voting privileges to two MFDP delegates, she refused them.

Why she might not be annoying:

She started working at 6 years old.
She was the youngest of twenty siblings.
Her family's mules were poison by a white neighbor in an attempt to leave them in poverty.
She worked hard to preserve and exercise the right to black suffrage in the state of Mississippi.
She was terrorized by whites after she unsuccessfully tried to vote. She was shot at and fired from her job.
She challenged Mississippi state laws that tried to prevent blacks from voting.
She was beaten in jail by black prisoners, who were following orders from white prison guards. She took the police officers to court, but they were found 'not guilty.'
She ran for Congress in 1964, but her name was removed from the ballot by the opposing party.
She said: 'Sometimes it seems, to tell the truth today is to run the risk of being killed. But if I fall, I’ll fall five-feet four-inches forward in the fight for freedom.'
