Why he might be annoying:

He tried to change his date and place of birth, claiming to have been born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, in 1925.
He was known for his milquetoast looks and squawky, nasal voice.
He said, 'I look like a frightened chipmunk who's been out in the rain too long.'
For 'Hercules in New York,' co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger was billed as 'Arnold Strong' so they would have matching names.

He was married to his wife Joanne for 61 years until his death.
He began his showbiz career as a teen on radio.
He successfully played against type in Otto Preminger's drama 'The Man with the Golden Arm.'
Knowing the importance of his nebbishy looks to his career, when he needed plastic surgery following an auto accident (1959), he told the doctor, 'For God's sake, don't make me look pretty.'
