Why they might be annoying:

It seems like the only song of theirs that got played in America is 'Beds are Burning.'
They changed their name to Midnight Oil after picking that name out of a hat.
They were pretty damn preachy, with their environmental and anti-nuclear stance beng dominant.
One such instance occurred during the closing ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, when they all wrote 'sorry' on their clothes as a statement because then-Australian Prime Minister John Howard, who was in attendance, wouldn't apologize for treatment of Aboriginal Australians over the decades.
They developed a reputation for their uncompromising stance toward the music industry. For example, their manager would ban any critic who gave them an unfavoritable review from going to their concerts.

Why they might not be annoying:

The name 'Midnight Oil' was inspired by Jimi Hendrix' 'Burning of the Midnight Lamp.'
They created their own record label to release their first album in 1978 when nobody else would sign them.
'Beds Are Burning' is about letting one particular group of Indigenous Australians get back their land.
They were charismatic live performers.
They received eleven Australian Recording Industry Association awards, and in 2006, they were inducted into their Hall of Fame.
