Why he might be annoying
He was director Francis Ford Coppola’s first choice for Sonny Corleone, but producer Robert Evans insisted on replacing him with James Caan.
He was busted selling cocaine to an undercover cop.
He sent screeners of some sixty films seeking Oscar nominations to Russell Sprague, who used the screeners to create bootleg copies of the film that he sold on the internet.
He was ordered to pay $300,000 to both Warner Brothers and Sony, with the judge in the Warner Brothers case calling his actions ‘particularly egregious.’
For violating their policies against copying screeners, he became the first person to be expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (2004).
Why he might not be annoying
He said discovering acting at the local Boys Club kept him from becoming a real-life mobster.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He is one of only three actors to play two different roles in the ‘Godfather’ trilogy.
He said he thought Sprague was a film buff and had no idea he was pirating movies. (‘I was doing a guy a favor, and he screwed me.’)
Compared to the sins of other members expelled from AMPAS, his seem downright quaint.
