The Resume

    (1964- )
Wrote ‘Wasted: Tales of a GenX Drunk’ (1997), ‘If It Ain’t Got That Swing: The Rebirth of Grown-Up Culture’ (2000) and ‘God and Man at Georgetown Prep: How I Became a Catholic Despite 20 Years of Catholic Schooling’ (2005)
Became a focus of attention during the Supreme Court nomination hearings for Brett Kavanaugh when Christine Blasey Ford claimed that Judge had been present when Kavanaugh allegedly sexually assaulted her at a party when they were high school students in the early 1980s

Why he might be annoying:

In his teens, he regularly drank alcohol until he blacked out.
On his high school yearbook page, he quotes a Noel Coward line, ‘Certain women should be struck regularly, like gongs.’
A former classmate called him ‘an unhappy person who was happy to make other people unhappy. ‘Bully’ may be an overused term, but he regularly belittled people he perceived as being lower on the high school hierarchy.’
An ex-girlfriend told The New Yorker that he admitted to her that while in high school he and other boys took turns having sex with a drunk woman.
When he was a freelance journalist and the Washington City Paper rejected one of his articles, he sent editor Brad McKee, who is gay, an email wishing him the same fate as Matthew Shepard (a gay student who had been beaten to death in 1998).
His memoir ‘Wasted’ mentions a Bart O’Kavanaugh who ‘passed out on his way back from a party’ after ‘he puked in someone’s car.’
After publication of ‘Wasted,’ his brother wrote, ‘Mark is a solipsist: spoiled as a child, gazing always inward, unable to recognize any pain but his own… [T]hat’s the real problem—not alcoholism or a lousy childhood or an abusive father.’

Why he might not be annoying:

According to Ford’s story, he inadvertently ended the sexual assault when he jumped on the bed, causing everyone to fall to the ground, at which point Ford ran off to a bathroom.
    He quit drinking.
He stuck up for Kavanaugh, saying he had been a ‘brilliant student’ who was not ‘into anything crazy or illegal.’
