The Resume

    (March 27, 1964- )
Writer of 'Less than Zero,' 'The Informers,' 'American Psycho,' 'The Rules of Attraction' and 'Glamorama'

Why he might be annoying:

All but one of his novels have been or are being made into feature films.
Simon and Schuster gave Ellis a $300,000 advance for 'American Psycho' then refused to publish it after women's groups protested.
In the 1980's, he played keyboard for some new wave bands.
He has a lot of graphic violence in his books.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He lives in New York.
His main characters are usually shallow, drug-addicted rich people.
He is influenced by Hemingway, Joyce, Joan Didion, Flaubert and Dennis Cooper.
After 'American Psycho' was published, some speculated as to whether the book was based on an actual journal- perhaps even Ellis' own.
