Why he might be annoying:

He had a feud with fellow 'Coronation Street' star Pat Phoenix in which they did not speak with each other for two years.
He sued 'The Sun' for libel for calling him boring; although he won, he was liable for his legal costs in the case.
He then sued his lawyer for giving him bad advice and lost.
As a result, he filed for bankruptcy (1999).

He suffers from tinnitus from a mortar explosion while serving with the British army.
His daughter Edwina died at age 18 months.
He is the last of the original cast members of 'Coronation Street' still on the show.
He is the longest-serving actor in the history of British soaps.
