Why he might be annoying:

He refused to shake hands with people.
He rarely bathed (he WAS French).
He was a recluse who shunned society.
He didn’t tell his family that he had a common-law wife and child.
He received a huge inheritance, and didn’t have to work for a living.
He was moody, and destroyed many early paintings in fits of self-doubt.

Why he might not be annoying:

His paintings were extremely influential.
He is often called ‘The Father of Modern Art.’
His painting style continued to evolve over the years.
His friend Émile Zola published a novel that satirized him as a failed artist.
He eventually married his mistress.
At the end of his life, he collapsed doing what he loved – painting.
