    Posthumously won the Pulitzer Prize for Best Drama and Tonys for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score

    He broke up with a girlfriend who told him he could not write an authentic gospel song.
    He composed scores for home movies by publisher Jann Wenner.
    'Rent' rips off the plot of Puccini's 'La Boheme.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He succeeded in his goal 'to bring musical theater to the MTV generation.'
    He said 'Rent' was motivated by the need 'to respond in some way' to friends coping with AIDS.
    He died of an aortic aneurysm the day 'Rent' was scheduled to begin its off-Broadway preview.
    State health officials fined two hospitals $16,000 for misdiagnosing his complaints about chest pain as either flu, stress or food poisoning.
    In an interview two hours before he died, he was cautiously optimistic about 'Rent's chances and noted, 'I think I may have a life as a composer.'
