Baseball Player

The Resume

    (March 6, 1986- )
    Born in Farmington, Missouri
Birth name is Jacob Joseph Arrieta
Pitcher for the Chicago Cubs (2013- )
Played for the Baltimore Orioles (2010-2013)
Attended Weatherford Junior College, later Texas Christian University
Joined the United States National Baseball team in 2006, helping the team to win the World University Baseball Championship in Cuba
Pitched six innings and struck out seven in Team USA's 9–1 victory over the China national baseball team in the 2008 Beijing Olympics
Pitched a 4-0 game which advanced the Chicago Cubs to the National League Division Series (October 8, 2015)

Why he might be annoying:

He idolized Roger Clemens as a kid.
He drinks kale as part of his workout regiment.
His college coach allegedly banned him from the weight room for working out too hard.
He has been known to engage his critics on Twitter.
His fans have been deemed fanatical even for Cubs fans.
One fan even rewrote Nirvana’s 'Come As You Are' to serenade him during games.
He wore his mustache-onesie-pajamas during the press conference following his famous no-hitter at Dodgers Stadium, on a dare from Coach Maddon (Aug. 30, 2015).
He unintentionally hit two Pirates hitters during a game, provoking a skirmish after the second hit (Oct. 5, 2015).
He was the losing pitcher in the Cubs' Game 2 loss to the Mets in the NLCS - taking a majority of the blame for the team's being denied their chance for their first World Series win in over 100 years (Oct. 18, 2015).

Why he might not be annoying:

He is of Puerto Rican heritage on his mother's side.
He won the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year award in his freshman year of college.
He was named a Second-Team College Baseball All-American after his sophomore year in college.
He is an avid hiker, known for going out on up to 15 mile walks on a daily basis during offseason.
He threw the first no-hitter for the Cubs since Carlos Zambrano in 2008.
He was the surprise star of the 2015 MLB season; moving up the pitching ranks at an astonishing rate.
He went from a 5.46 ERA to a 2.48 in less than two seasons.
He was selected in the MLB draft by the Reds and the Brewers as a High School senior and a college freshman respectively, but chose to attend college both times.
His development of a 'slider-cutter' hybrid tends to trip up batters (using the exact same grip each time, but changing the pressure/velocity to confuse them).
He credits his improvement to mental preparation, saying 'I was able to shift away from the mechanical focus into more of a mindset focus.'
The Cubs weren't expected to even get as far as they did, and he played a big part in getting them there, in the first place (and a lot can happen in the next century, right?)
