Two years before he made his Major League debut, the New York Yankees failed to make him into a pitcher (1967).
He was remembered as the 3,000th player to be struck out by Nolan Ryan and Bob Gibson.
During his first World Series appearance, the Reds lost to the Oakland Athletics in 7 games, where he had a .158 batting average.
He was overshadowed by some of his teammates in Cincinnati.
