Premise: An outspoken Queens native becomes nanny for the family of a Broadway producer

After being subjected to Drescher's voice for an extended period, many viewers probably found the commercials a relief.
It relied heavily on repeated running gags.
It stretched out the romantic tension between Miss Fine and Mr. Sheffield for five of the show's six seasons.
Fran Fine refused to ever admit to being over 29.
Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O'Donnell and Coolio guest starred as both characters and themselves in different episodes.

Drescher resisted pressure to change her character's ethnicity from Jewish to Italian.
CBS stood by the show when it struggled in the ratings its first season and it became one of the network's biggest hits of the decade.
It had no turnover among the principal cast members during its six seasons, largely due to a family atmosphere on set.
Viewers for Quality Television called it 'the 90s version of I Love Lucy. It was well written and entertaining.'
It inspired foreign adaptations in several countries, with the Russian version becoming so popular that some of the original American writers were hired to create new scripts.
