    She failed seven screen tests for 'Red Headed Woman,' with the part eventually going to Jean Harlow.
    She married co-star John Gilbert and divorced him before their second anniversary.
    She married and divorced Turkish businessman Ali Ipar twice.
    She continued chain smoking while being treated for cancer.

    She originally came to California to attend UCLA, but was encouraged by her parents, who were going through financial difficulties, to skip school and pursue a film career.
    She introduced the song 'I've Got You Under My Skin' in the film 'Born To Dance'; Cole Porter later said he never a better version of the song.
    During World War II, she entertained with the USO and at the Hollywood Canteen.
    She lost most of the money she made in Hollywood investing in husband Ipar's shipping business.
