Known for his roles in 'Affliction,' 'The Magnificent Seven,' 'The Great Escape,' 'Our Man Flint,' 'In Like Flint' and 'Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid'

Why he might be annoying:

He smoked cigars.
He was typecast early in his career as a tough guy.
He did commercials for casino companies in the late 90's.
He has a 'weathered voice' and used it for Chevy's' Like A Rock' commercials.

He was a pallbearer at Bruce Lee's funeral.
He appeared on Paul McCartney's album cover 'Band on the Run.'
He playfully bragged about being the one to present an actress from 'a town with so many creative, talented, gorgeous sexy women' with a Best Supporting Actress Oscar (2000) and got chuckles from the audience.
He did many westerns early in his career.
He continued to work when he suffered from arthritis.
He won his own Best Supporting Actor Oscar for playing Nick Nolte's father in 'Affliction.'
He died a peaceful and painless death from a heart attack that started while he was at home dancing with his wife.
