The Resume

    (1855-1922)
Published the Police Gazette, a weekly tabloid
    Credited with making boxing respectable

Why he might be annoying:

He was a racist, especially against the Chinese.
His overzealous emphasis on crime and scandal long before such became acceptable.
They used pink paper in each issue.
They advertised questionable patent medicines for social diseases and quasi-pornographic novels.
The obvious tone of the paper catered to male-chauvinist arrogance.

Why he might not be annoying:

He pioneered the use of illustrations in the popular press.
He had an obvious interest of the Police Gazette (as was founded in 1846) in calling attention to infamous criminals on the loose.
He convinced John L. Sullivan to become a boxer.
