Offensive line coach for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1967-69, 1976), Brown University (1970-72), Oklahoma State University (1975) and the Edmonton Eskimos (1977-80)
Offensive coordinator for Marshall University (1973), Houston Oilers (1985) and the Montreal Machine (1991-92)
Quarterbacks and wide receivers coach for the Cincinnati Bengals (1984)
Tight ends coach for the Buffalo Bills (1986)
Head coach for the Saskatchewan Roughriders (1981-83), Montreal Alouettes (1987), Edmonton Eskimos (1987-90) and the Ottawa Rough Riders (1991)
Why he might be annoying
His nickname was 'Papa Joe.'
He was fired at mid-season twice.
He was hired for the Alouettes head coaching job, never to coach a game for the team as it ceased operations weeks later.
Despite guiding the Eskimos to the CFL's best record, he watched his team fall apart in the West Final and lose a Grey Cup berth (1989).
His final game coaching the Eskimos saw the team get blown out in the Grey Cup game (1990).
Why he might not be annoying
He served in the U.S. Army for four years and was stationed in Germany.
He was considered a skilled offensive coach by football pundits.
He accepted the Eskimos coaching job two weeks into the CFL season, and guided the team to a Grey Cup championship (1987).
He coached in the CFL, NFL and WLAF.
