    In singles, won three times at Wimbledon (1959-60,1964), four times at the US Open (1959,1963-64,1966)
    In women's doubles, won one Australian Open (1960), one French Open (1960), five Wimbledons (1958,1960,1963,1965-66) and four US Opens (1960,1962,1966,1968)
    In mixed doubles, won one French Open (1960)
    Inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame (1979)

Why she might be annoying:

    She inspired sportswriters to coin headlines like 'Maria Muy Bueno at Wimbledon.'
    She was known for emotional outbursts on court.
    She was aloof and remote off court. (Billie Jean King: 'She rarely socialized or even talked to other players. She wasn't unpopular, but she wasn't popular either.')
    She retired because of arm and shoulder injuries (1969), then attempted an unsuccessful comeback six years later.

    She won the Brazilian women's championship at age 14.
    After her first Wimbledon victory, her home city erected a 60 foot statue of her.
    She won the first Grand Slam in women's doubles (1960).
    Her game combined grace and power.
