The Resume

    (June 17, 1910-August 11, 2003)
Daughter of David Freeman-Mitford, 2nd Baron Redesdale
Sister of Nancy, Jessica and Unity Mitford
Married to brewery heir Bryan Walter Guinness (1929-33) and Oswald Mosley (1936-80), founder of the British Union of Fascists
Detained with Moseley during World War II
Wrote 'A Life of Contrasts' (1977) and 'Loved Ones' (1985)
    Died in Paris

Why she might be annoying:

She left her first husband, Bryan Guinness, for Mosley.
She married Mosley at Joseph Goebbels' house, with Adolf Hitler as one of the guests.
MI5 documents described her as ‘far cleverer and more dangerous than her husband.'
She gave a Hitler salute at a rally in England when everyone else sang 'God Save the King.'
She was imprisoned during World War II.
She edited a right-wing magazine called The European.
Her husband had countless affairs with other women.
She spoke of Hitler fondly, recalling his ‘mesmeric eyes.'
She continued to finance the British fascist movement even after the end of the war.
She remained committed to her views and refused to admit she was wrong.
She was estranged from her sister Jessica for years.
Adolph Hitler provided her with a Mercedes-Benz to chauffeur her around the Berlin Olympics.
Because of her connections, she and Moseley led a privileged life in prison and were even allowed to hire other inmates as servants.
She opposed allowing non-whites to immigrate to Britain.

Why she might not be annoying:

She adored her husband and put up with his infidelities.
James Lees-Milne said she was 'the nearest thing to Botticelli's Venus I have ever seen.'
In post-war exile in France, she became good friends with the Duchess of Windsor.
She did not deny Hitler's crimes, saying, 'I'm sure he was to blame for the extermination of the Jews. and I say that as someone who approved of him.'
