The Resume

    (April 30, 1938- )
    Born in Los Angeles, California
Sci-Fi author best known for his collaborations with Jerry Pournelle
Creator of the Known Space series including Ringworld
Five time winner of the Hugo Award
Received a Bachelors degree from the University of Kansas

Why he might be annoying:

His most well known works came from collaborations with other authors like Jerry Pournelle and Steve Barnes.
He had to write a sequel to Ringworld because he made glaring scientific mistakes in it.
Despite his success as a writer, a few TV episodes from a couple of different TV series are his only works to filmed.

Why he might not be annoying:

His short story 'Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex' is possibly the funniest sci-fi short story of all-time.
In addition to his Hugo wins, he has also won the Nebula and Ditmas Awards.
He wrote the 'bible' for the Green Lantern.
He wrote 'Niven's Laws,' the first of which was, 'There is no cause so right that one cannot find some fool following it,' and includes the profound 'Mother Nature does not care if you are having a good time.'
Footfall, a collaboration with longtime friend Jerry Pournelle hit #1 on the NY Times Bestseller list. Rare for a science fiction work.
