TV Series
    (September 5, 1989-August 27, 1996)
    Aired on CBS (1989-1996)
    Hosted by William Shatner
Consisted of re-enactments of life-threatening situations and the rescue procedures taken
Despite its title, it occasionally aired non-life threating emergencies.
Following the show's original run, syndicated episodes became hard to find.
When the show was picked up for syndication on the Discovery network, they cut down the show from 60 to 30 minutes, often leaving unnecessary cliffhangers.
When the Family Channel picked up the show's syndicated episodes, they heavily edited them often leaving out integral parts of the segment.
Some of the episodes during the show's original run were shortened to accommodate movie specials.
It was originally meant to be a three part mini-series, but many viewers enjoyed it so much, they encouraged the network to pick it up and air it as a prime time series.
Although the show was never intended to be educational, the network received many letters from viewers thanking them for the knowledge they used from watching the show.
It aired some notable high profile cases such as the Charles Stuart murder case, the Amtrak Crash, the Puerto Rico hotel fire, Hurricane Hugo and the Oklahoma City Bombing aftermaths.
It aired episodes where the segments centered around child safety.
To prove it was not biased towards the North American market, they aired segments of emergencies that happened overseas.
To show its versatility, they would have documentary segments of emergency situations.
