The Resume

    (August 1624-June 23, 1662)
    Born in Hirado, Japan
    Birth name was Zheng Sen
Also known as Koxinga, Zheng Chenggong, Fukumatsu, Teiseiko, and Cocksinja
Admiral loyal to the Ming Dynasty
Attacked the Dutch in Taiwan (1661-February 1, 1662)
Attacked the Spanish at the Philippines (1662)
Died of malaria in Tainan, Taiwan

Why he might be annoying:

His father was a merchant and a pirate who rose through the social rank through crime.
He is looked down on as a pirate in the Philippines because of the raids he conducted there.
Also, he prevented the Spanish from conquering the Moro people by demanding tribute and threatening to invade Manila, only to not attack the city when the Spanish refused to pay.
His attempts to restore the Ming Dynasty were a nuisance to the Qing Dynasty.
It was said that he ordered his officers to execute his son for having a child with his wet nurse, but when they refused, he went into a fit of madness that killed him.

Why he might not be annoying:

Having a Chinese father, a Japanese mother, African and Indian bodyguards, and Dutch and Spanish enemies, he was quite a cosmopolitan individual at a time when China was rigidly isolationist.
He was loyal to the Ming Dynasty.
He led a Ming army to repel Machu invaders. (1646)
He remains popular in China and Taiwan for his military campaigns, and in Japan for his maternal family.
His military campaigns are chronicled in a Japanese play called ‘The Battles of Coxinga’.
