    Winner of the first Eurovision with ‘Refrain’ (1956)
    Also recorded the singles ‘Moulin Rouge (A Song of Paris)’ (1953), ‘Oh Mein Papa’ (1954), ‘Jolie Jacqueline’ (1955), ‘Arrivederci Roma’ (1956) and ‘Fur Immer (For Always)’ (1961)

Why she might be annoying:

    She started as a dancer, but switched to singing after standing in for a missing vocalist at a show.
    She tried to return to Eurovision in her late 80s, twice competing unsuccessfully to represent Switzerland (2012-13).
    She posed nude for a Swiss magazine at age 83.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She performed songs in both French and German at Eurovision.
    She was called the ‘first lady’ and ‘grande dame’ of Eurovision.
    She was a guest of honor at Eurovision’s 50th and 60th anniversaries.
    She said, ‘Singing gives me the joy of life.’
