The Resume

    (November 10, 1923-March 8, 1935)
    Born in Akita Prefecture, Japan
    Akita dog
Owned by Hidesaburo Ueno, a professor at the University of Tokyo
At the end of each working day, would meet Ueno at Shibuya Station
After Ueno's death (May, 1925) continued appearing daily at the station when the train was due
Bronze statue of him erected at Shibuya Station (1934)
Remains on display at the National Science Museum

Why he might be annoying:

According to rumor, he died after swallowing a BBQ chicken skewer that ruptured his stomach.
An autopsy showed that he had actually swallowed four skewers (although none of them had damaged his stomach and they were not the cause of death).
His faithfulness was hijacked by nationalists to turn him into a symbol of loyalty to the Emperor.
His original statue was melted down to recycle the metal during WWII.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was faithful to his master.
The son of the artist who made the original statue created a replacement.
His statue is a popular meeting spot, especially for lovers, since he symbolizes commitment and loyalty.
The exact spot where he waited at the train station is marked by bronze paw prints.
He probably inspired the tearjerker Futurama episode 'Jurassic Bark.'
Each April 8, hundreds of dog lovers attend a ceremony to honor him at Shibuya Station.
