    Recorded the albums 'Boy with a Lot of Brass' (1957), 'Newport Suite' (1960), 'Two's Company' (with Chris Connor, 1961), 'Double Exposure' (with Chris Connor, 1962), 'Come Blow Your Horn' (1964), 'Trumpet Rhapsody' (1967), 'M.F. Horn' (1970), 'Conquistador' (1977), 'Carnival' (1978), 'Storm' (1983), 'Big City Rhythms' (with <29816>Michael Feinstein, 1999), and 'Swingin' for Schuur' (with Diane Schuur, 2001)
    Had a Top 40 hit covering 'Gonna Fly Now (Theme from Rocky)' (1977)
    Inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame (1997)

Why he might be annoying:

    He spent three years living at Timothy Leary's Millbrook Estate, doing LSD and other psychedelic drugs. ('The Millbrook experience turned me on to a wider way of thinking.')
    He became a follower of Indian guru Sathya Sai Baba.
    AllMusic declared 'Some of his more commercial efforts are unlistenable.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    At thirteen, he was a soloist with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Orchestra.
    He won Down Beat magazine's readers poll as best trumpeter for three consecutive years (1950-52) and was named to the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame (1992).
    He performed at the closing ceremonies of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, where he symbolically 'blew out' the Olympic flame.
