Why he might be annoying:

    He served five years in the Illinois State Penitentiary for fraud and auto theft (1946-51).
    He then served another three years for his part in a bad check passing operation (1953-56).
    He robbed three banks in Phoenix, taking $25,000 (1959-60).
    When he was arrested for the bank robberies, he attempted to run over an FBI agent with his car (July 28, 1960).
    He was charged with fraud for rolling back car odometers and racketeering related to a bingo parlor he ran, but avoided jail by agreeing to pay a $100,000 fine (1987).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served with the US Navy during World War II.
    While living in Tucson, he volunteered with the Pima County Juvenile Probation Department and was named a special deputy to handle young offenders (1959).
    He operated a bingo parlor for the Center for Education Reform, a non-profit based in Eugene.
    Chuck Ivey, the mayor of Junction City, Oregon, said, ‘He was a nice guy, helped a lot of people financially, and did one hell of a lot for the kids.’
