Musician

The Resume

    (July 19, 1944-September 26, 2021)
    Born in Boise, Idaho
Birth name is George Frayne IV
Front man (keyboards, lead vocals) of Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen
Formed in 1967 in Ann Arbor, Michigan
Relocated to San Francisco in 1970
    Recorded 'Hot Rod Lincoln'
Subject of the 1976 book 'Star-Making Machinery' by Geoffrey Stokes (about music industry marketing/production)

Why he might be annoying:

He is a one hit wonder.
He bears a resemblance to Ron Jeremy.
He admits he's not much of a vocalist and thus 'Hot Rod Lincoln' has him talking fast more than singing.
He took his name from the cheap 1952 Republic Pictures serial 'Commando Cody' (and an episode entitled 'Lost Planet Airmen').
After acting in the low budget, plot thin 1976 movie 'Hollywood Boulevard' he broke the band up.
Since then he's been sporadically in and out of music studios recording sometimes as a solo act, sometimes as The Commander Cody Band and at times resurrecting the Lost Planet Airmen name.

Why he might not be annoying:

He earned a Masters Degree in painting and sculpture from the University of Michigan.
In 1967, Linda Ronstadt asked him to marry her, but he was already engaged and had to turn her down (she was probably kidding anyway).
Nicolette Larson sang in the band when he first formed it.
'Hot Rod Lincoln' cracked the Top 10 on Billboard's Singles chart in 1972.
In 1974, as some kind of dumb joke, Hunter S. Thompson threw a bomb in his Florida hotel room (no one was hurt).
The band's personal manager (and a college buddy of his) embezzled gig money and split in 1975.
He is known for his legendary live performances and has opened for such acts as The Eagles, The Grateful Dead, The Doors and Jefferson Airplane.
