Why he might be annoying:

His Wikipedia article lists him as: actor, singer, playwright… and Railroad Conductor.
Believe it or not, he played for… the Toronto Argonauts! (Yes, football!)
He did not live to see his two Walk of Fame stars (film and television).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was an accomplished choirboy, songwriter, contributing writer, and playwright — much of which he came by honestly.
In his teens, he appeared onstage alongside Beatrice Lillie.
Because he was described as an amiable gentle being, he had little trouble playing community pillars, dirty cowardly villains, or pretty much anything in between.
He was a Canadian who married a Briton who gave birth to an American.
Over a two-decade stretch on the big screen, he played in some 300 features.
