The Resume

    (October 16, 1961- )
    Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Ex-president and chief executive officer of Quebecor Inc. & Sun Media Corporation
Philosophy degree from Universite du Quebec a Montreal (UQAM)
Law degree from Universite de Montreal
Parti québécois Minister for the riding of Saint-Jerome (elected in 41st provincial election, April 7, 2014)
    Owner of the Montréal Alouettes

Why he might be annoying:

PAY-lad-DOH, for all you non-native francophones.
Born into wealth, he inherited a media empire from his father (who died in 1997).
During his reign at Quebecor, he caused at least a dozen lockouts, to the disgust and detriment of the unions.
His legendary fist pump and announcement on a par with ‘vive le Quebec libre,’ a few days into the campaign, set the disaster dominoes into motion for the party (he also got compared to Silvio Berlusconi).
He called on the Supreme Court of Canada to commemorate the patriation of the Constitution from Britain 32 years earlier by setting aside April 17 to fly the Quebec flag at half-mast.
He sees Quebec as having been lowered from ‘the national home of one of Canada’s founding peoples’ to ‘a province like the others.’

Why he might not be annoying:

Unlike many PQ members in the region, he is fluently bilingual.
Two other party leaders piped up that his ownership of more than half of the provincial media at the time he announced his candidacy represented a conflict of interest.
Appointed chairman of the board of directors at Hydro-Quebec by his future party leader, he stepped down within a year to throw his hat into the ring.
He was one of the 30 candidates elected under the banner in an election that saw almost all of their star players, including the leader, defeated with the party’s worst final voting numbers since its inception.
Whenever a citizen of the province says or hashtags ‘#PKP,’ they are probably referring to him.
He purchased the CFL’s Montréal Alouettes, giving the franchise long-term stability, as well as being the first Quebec native to own the team (March 10, 2023).
