    Awarded Officer of the Order of Canada (1971)
    Wrote two books of poetry - My Heart Soars (1974) and My Spirit Soars (1982, published posthumously)
    Co-authored the autobiography 'You Call Me Chief: Impressions of the Life of Chief Dan George' (1981)
    Died of heart failure at age 82

Why he might be annoying:

    His name was changed to Dan George when he entered school at age 5.
    Until age 60, he worked various jobs as a logger, longshoreman, construction worker and school bus driver.
    He only accepted film roles that portrayed him as an Indian in a positive light.
    He lost both the Oscar and Golden Globe he was nominated for in the Best Supporting Actor catagory for 'Little Big Man.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He never took a single acting lesson.
    The speech he wrote for Vancouver's celebration of the Canadian centennial in 1967, 'Lament for Confederation,' helped promote sentiment and activism toward natives in Canada by non-natives.
    He has a public school named after him in Toronto, an elementary school in Abbotsford, BC, and an advanced education center in Vancouver, BC.
    His grand-daughter is an author, activist and college professor and his great-grand-daughter is an actor and poet.
    He died on the same reservation where he was born.
