    Died of tuberculosis in Madrid
When he and his two friends moved to Madrid for work as authors, he was the only one without a real job and steady income.
He was fired from a government job shortly after getting it because he spent so much time writing and drawing.
His marriage to Casta Esteban Navarro wasn't a happy one.
He mainly wrote about his lover Elisa Guillén during his marriage.
It was rumored that his third child Emilio Eusebio was born out of his affair with Elisa Guillén.
In his will, he wrote to a friend to burn his letters and publish his poems instead, believing that he would be more well-known after his death.
His father died when he was five, and his mother when he was eleven.
He is the second most read Spanish language writer after Miguel de Cervantes.
His poems form the foundation of modern Spanish poetry.
Despite the poverty he experienced in Madrid that dashed his hopes of living a prosperous life shortly upon arriving there, he managed to persevere and become an influential literary figure.
In stark contrast to the rhetorical, dramatic style of Romantic poetry, his lyricism is simple and airy.
His poems deal with themes of love, particularly feelings of disillusionment and loneliness.
