Why he might be annoying
Eisenhower outwardly ignored Fidel Castro's increasingly strident attacks on the United States in 1959, but was criticized for both provoking and tolerating them.
During his second term as President, he allowed several U-2 Spy Planes to fly missions over the USSR. The Soviet Union shot down a U-2 Plane in 1960 which caused Premier Nikita Khrushchev to boycott a projected summit conference at Paris in May 1960, which worsened relations with communist countries.
Eisenhower was the first President to use television as a way of campaigning, and used his infamous 'I Like Ike' jingle in commercials.
He endorsed Richard Nixon for President in the late 1960's.
Why he might not be annoying
His first son died at about age 4 of scarlett fever (1921).
He was the principal architect of the successful Allied invasion of Europe during World War II and of the subsequent defeat of Nazi Germany.
Eisenhower brought to the presidency both the assets and limitations of a military background: a talent for administrative efficiency qualified by a deficient background in national problems outside the sphere of foreign relations.
He established a chain of command, delegated broad responsibility to subordinates, and freed himself to grapple with the larger issues.
He fulfilled his promise to end the Korean War.
He declared segregation in public schools unconstitutional (1954).
He suffered a serious heart attack in 1965 which ended his active participation in public affairs.
His popularity never waned and he topped the list of most admired Americans in a Gallup poll released in December 1968.
