The Resume

    (January 1, 45 BC-September 4, 1582)
    Born in Rome, Italy
365 or 366 days per year
    Named for Julius Caesar
Designed by Sosigenes of Alexandria (an astronomer)
    Reformed the Roman calendar
Quintilis renamed July in honor of Julius Caesar (44 B.C.E.)
Sextilis renamed August in honor of Augustus Caesar (8 B.C.E.)

Why Julian Calendar might be annoying:

To align the old Roman calendar into the Julian calendar, 46 B.C.E. was 445 days long.
It replaced the Roman calendar which consisted of 355 days plus the arbitrary addition of an extra month to add days.
It kept many of the same month names as the Roman calendar, which caused confusion. Dates of birthdays and events could mistakenly be celebrated on the wrong day.
It is exactly the same as the Gregorian, with one exception. There is a leap year every 4 years. The Gregorian Calendar skips years ending in 00 that are not fully divisible by 400.
The solar year is a bit shorter than 365.25 days. So after 1600 years, it was 11 days ahead.
It added an extra day every 310 years.

Why Julian Calendar might not be annoying:

A year is equal to one full revolution of the Earth around the Sun.
It fixed many errors and inconsistencies in the Roman Calendar which was in use since 660 B.C.E.
It introduced a definite leap day.
It is still in use by Orthodox churches.
Russia and Greece used this calender into the 1900s.
It established the name and lengths of each month that we still use today.
