Why they might be annoying:

Ness has been the only constant in the band.
Their drummer and bassist quit in the middle of a New Year's Eve show (1983).
The band went on hiatus due to Ness's heroin addiction (1985-86).
Their 'Greatest Hits' album features re-recordings of their older material rather than the original tracks.

They added elements of country to punk rock.
Bruce Springsteen named 'Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell' as his favorite record of the year in a 'Rolling Stone' interview.
Their song 'Ball and Chain' was featured in episodes of My Name Is Earl and Scrubs.
Long-time guitarist Dennis Danell died of a brain aneurysm at age 38 (2000) and original bassist Brent Liles was struck and killed by a truck while cycling (2007).
