Why Nanjing, China might be annoying:

Due to its long history, it has been known by many names, including Jiankang (Eastern Wu and Jin Dynasties), Shengzhou (Tang Dynasty), Jinling (Southern Tang Dynasty), Jiangning (Northern Song Dynasty, Qing Dynasty), Chilenfu (Yuan Dynasty), Yingtian (early Ming Dynasty), and Tianjing (Taiping Rebellion). Also, thanks to different methods of translating Chinese characters into Western alphabets, it used to be called ‘Nanking.’
It was almost completely leveled during the Sui Dynasty (6th century AD).
When Imperial forces recaptured it during the Taiping Rebellion, as many as 100,000 defenders committed suicide (June, 1864).
After capturing the city in the Sino-Japanese War, Japanese soldiers killed 200-300,000 civilians and engaged in mass rapes (Dec, 1937-January, 1938).
It then served as the capital of Japan’s puppet state, the Reorganized Government of the Republic of China.
It, Wuhan, and Chongqing are known as ‘the Three Furnaces’ for their hot and humid summers.
One of the local delicacies is duck blood and vermicelli soup.
