The Resume

    (April 9, 1830-May 8, 1904)
Born in Kingston upon Thames, London, England, United Kingdom
Birth name is Edward James Muggeridge
British photographer and early motion pictures pioneer
Known for his short reel film 'Sallie Gardner at a Gallop' (1878) and his development of the zoopraxiscope device for moving pictures (1879)

Why he might be annoying:

Not only is his name hard to spell, but he has changed it several times over his adult life.
He was known to have a motional, eccentric behavior by his friends.
He married Flora Shallcross Stone, who was half his age!
Upon revelation that Muybridge and Flora's child was from her previous marriage with Harry Larkyns, Muybridge sought after her ex and shot him.
His defense attorneys helped him get away from jail because of an insanity plea resulting from a head trauma that Muybridge suffered in 1860.
His legal troubles continued in the midst of a dispute between him and then-governor of California Leland Stanford over publishing credits to the book 'The Horse in Motion.'
He filed a lawsuit against Stanford to gain credit, but it was dismissed.
His headstone is engraved with the name 'Eadweard MAYBRIDGE.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was noted for photographing scenic landscapes and animals in motion.
His film 'Sallie Gardner at a Gallop' indicated that all of a horse's feet are off the ground at some point while running.
He was influenced by the French photographer Étienne-Jules Marey.
He used his zoopraxiscope to show his moving pictures to a paying public at the 1893 World Columbian Exposition. Many film historians cite this as the first commercial movie theater.
Many of his works, notably 'Sallie Gardner,' have been referenced in many films.
Many film historians credit him for planting the seeds toward the development of motion pictures.
