Why The Daily Show with Trevor Noah might be annoying:

The show's ratings were disappointing at the start of Noah's taking over for Jon Stewart.
Its ratings steadied, only to sink again in 2020 (its lowest ratings in 15 years for the Daily Show).
The announcement that Trevor would be Stewart's successor was almost immediately overshadowed by the resurfacing of old tweets from his account, deemed to be questionably sexist and anti-Semitic.
Tomi Lahren appeared on the show and engaged in an uncomfortable back-and-forth with Trevor about Black Lives Matter and the Ku Klux Klan (November 30, 2016).
Its Twitter account came under fire when it reacted to a Supreme Court decision to strike down a Texas law that would have closed abortion clinics with the following tweet: 'Celebrate the #SCOTUS ruling! Go knock someone up in Texas!'
It got a public rebuke from the French ambassador after the World Cup over Trevor's on-air congratulatory joke: 'Africa won the World Cup' (eighty percent of the team is of African descent). Trevor read the letter on-air in a mock French accent.

Why The Daily Show with Trevor Noah might not be annoying:

It offers a more nuanced perspective on global politics due to the host's unique background.
Its host avoids overly focusing his segments on Fox News (which was Jon's M.O).
It made enough changes from the original to become 'its own thing' (updated set, new graphics, different monologue format).
It received the blessing from Jon Stewart.
The host's reaction to Donald Trump's Presidential win ('This is it, the end of the presidential race, and it feels like the end of the world,' while chugging Pepto Bismol) went viral.
It changed its name to 'The Daily Social Distancing Show with Trevor Noah' during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
It successfully made the transition to digital streaming media, making headway with millennials and minority demographics.
