Why he might be annoying:

His wife coerced him to switch from being a Protestant to Catholic.
When John A Macdonald died, he declined being Prime Minister believing his Catholicism would not be acceptable to his party.
He died in Windsor Castle after being made a member of Queen Victoria's Privy Council.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a staunch supporter of women's rights, advocating female suffrage.
He created the Canadian Criminal Code (1892).
He helped a bill through Parliament that enacted the first Labor Day, celebrated in Winnipeg.
His freak heart attack caused him to die young at 49.
