Why he might be annoying:

He was married and divorced twice.
    He was hypersensitive.
He called himself 'more English than the English.'
Although his films with Powell bore the credit 'Produced, written and directed' by Powell and Pressburger, he did not actually co-direct the movies.

Why he might not be annoying:

A refugee from Nazi Germany, he felt a personal debt to Winston Churchill, and queued for hours to pay tribute at Churchill's funeral.
He always traveled with a bottle opener because, 'You never knew when you'd find a bottle of beer.'
Four of the films he made with Powell were named to the British Film Institute list of the 100 greatest British movies.
His two grandsons became filmmakers, with Andrew MacDonald producing 'Trainspotting' and Kevin MacDonald winning an Oscar for the documentary 'One Day in September.'
