Why he might be annoying:

    He was a slave owner.
    In his retirement, he nearly went bankrupt and owed money to friends.
    He suffered from depression.
    He had an affair with his slave Sally Hemmings.

Why he might not be annoying:

    During his administration, he doubled the size of the U.S. with the Louisiana Purchase (1804).
    He modified the Voltaire quote of 'Life, Liberty and Property' to 'Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness'
    He led the Democratic-Republican party (currently known as Democratic Party) to start America's two party system.
    He is the first man to beat a sitting President (John Adams), which led to Adams' dislike of him.
    He died on July 4, 1826, the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and mere hours prior to John Adams' death.
    His prose and writing style is exceptionally witty, comprehensive and pointed.
    He wrote: 'We hold these truths to be self evident: That all men are created equal.'
    He was studious, and studied 15 hours per day.
    As had been done by George Washington, Jefferson continued the tradition of refusing to run for a third term, although he would he won reelection.
    He was a devoted father and grandfather.
    He was a social person and did away with all regal advantages of the office of presidency.
    He had no religious affiliation.
    His papers and books were the foundation for the Library of Congress.
    He freed his slaves.
