Became the first 'first lady' after her husband was elected to be president of the United States (1732)

Why she might be annoying:

She hated her role as the first lady, and often felt that she was a state prisoner.
She was a widow when she married George Washington.
She burned the letters that she and George exchanged back and forth during the Revolutionary War, after her husband died, in hopes of privacy.
She once complained rather viciously over a smudge left on the wall of her living room, which she was sure was left by 'a dirty democrat.'

Why she might not be annoying:

Despite her desire to live a private life, she bore it all and was still very gracious to visitors.
It has been said that if she didn't send letters to Washington during the war, he might have lost some of his key battles for lack of motivation.
She was a quiet first lady and didn't use her position as a political stepstone like some other first ladies that followed.
