Why Law and Order: Special Victims Unit might be annoying
Like the original Law and Order, many episodes feature a 'ripped from the headlines' plot.
Sometimes the detectives become so obsessed with the case that they are more concerned with punishing the criminal than the recovery/well-being of the victim.
Many fans were disappointed by the departure of Stephanie March.
The original title, 'Sex Crimes,' was discarded as it was deemed inappropriate and unsuitable.
Diane Neal portrayed a woman accused of raping a male stripper in an earlier episode before she became a regular in season five.
After the World Trade Center attack in September 2001, NBC ordered the opening credits for the 2001-2002 season reedited to remove images of the building.
Why Law and Order: Special Victims Unit might not be annoying
It has become even more popular than the original and accumulates the highest ratings of all shows in the Law and Order franchise.
Richard Belzer has portrayed Detective John Munch on six shows (Homicide, Homicide: Life on the Street, Law and Order, Law and Order: Trial by Jury, The X Files, and The Beat), which is a record for an actor playing the same character on different programs.
According to an article in TV Guide, cast members are often approached by sexual abuse survivors who thank them for accurately portraying these types of stories on the air.
It maintains objectivity when dealing with controversial issues rather than just offering a one-sided view.
Minorities are often cast in the roles of professionals (both assistant district attorneys have been women, the medical examiner is an African American woman, and the psychiatrist is an Asian man).
